Lake of the Woods Fishing Report 6/5/2012

Lake of the Woods fishing has been excellent so far, with limits in the boat every trip so far. We have also seen a lot of really nice slot fish coming out of the lake. We have been fishing straight out of Lighthouse Gap, Pine Island, and up north by Knights. All of these spots are producing fish for us, here are the tactics we are using to put them in the boat.
  • Anchor and jigging in 28-30 feet (Steve’s favorite jig is a pink and white combo)
  • Flatlining plugs in 7-15 FOW (Firetiger and Gold have been the best colors)
  • Pulling spinners in 7-15 FOW (Gold spinners with a nighcrawler)
Don’t waste any more time…head up to the Walleye capital of the world and fish with one of the most experienced guides on the lake – Steve Sweet. Enjoy the cabin right on the lake and book a charter trip with Steve to kick back and enjoy catching that Minnesota Gold!

Lake of the Woods Fishing Report 2/7/2012

The fishing has been excellent for us all year and that continues to hold true. The fish are moving north and we are following them! We are staying on top of the fish, but that means we are moving our houses about every 4-5 days.

We are still seeing a good mix of walleye and sauger in the buckets, with the sauger’s coming in with awesome quality (14-16 inch fish). The hot bait this past week seems to be the Pink Charmer and the Northland Buckshot Rattle in 1/8-1/4 oz. sizes. The best colors in those baits have been pink glow and gold or red glow and black. Make sure you have a good mix of bait, one day chubs are the ticket and the next day shiners will be the trick.

The fish are generally holding tight to the bottom, but don’t forget your flasher, as there are a fair amount of fishing coming in suspended and those suspended fish usually turn out to be nice walleye. We have plenty of ice on the lake and travel is solid as long as you stick close to the roads or have 4wd.

We have plenty of the hard water season left and fishing continues to be really good, so don’t waste any time and book your trip to the best hard water fishery in the world with Sweet’s Fishing.

Feel free to forward this onto any of your friends looking to come up and enjoy the fishery that is Lake of the Woods! Tell them to subscribe to these emails at sweetsfishing.com

Lake of the Woods Fishing Report 1/20/2012

Fishing on Lake of the Woods has been outstanding as of late! The fish are coming in waves when they bite. Early morning from 7:00-10:00 and in the afternoon from 3:00-5:30 seems to be the hot bites. We have houses out in 30-33 feet of water and the ice is about 19 inches thick in most areas. We are making ice at a pretty good rate with the low temperatures, but please continue to proceed with caution and make sure to stick to the staked roads. There has been a strong mix of Walleye and Sauger. This past weekend, I had a house catch their limit of walleyes with the smallest one being 17 inches and biggest just a hair over 19 inches!

Techniques:
We are starting to see more and more fish coming in suspended so don’t forget your vexilar, as that is proving to be more and more valuable as the season wears on. Don’t be afraid to downsize your presentation. We have been seeing good success with the following jigs in smaller sizes: JR’s Tackle – Stop Sign & Hot Tamale, Toms Tackle – Pink Charmer, Northland – Buckshot Rattle. Hot colors for the jigs listed above has been anything in pink, gold or glow (red, pink, green). The dead sticks are also producing really well with a plain red hook and a minnow, set your hook anywhere from 6-12 inches off the bottom and it should be automatic!

Fishing is outstanding with everyone coming up catching plenty of fish to eat and taking home their limit. Don’t waste anymore time, get up to the walleye capital of the world for the fishing experience of a lifetime with Sweet’s Fishing!

Lake of the Woods Fishing Report 1/4/2012

Fishing has been stellar on the big pond with Sweet’s Fishing this week! We have been catching consistent limits with a good mix of Walleye and Sauger. Depending on the size of the group people have been pulling up 50-150 fish per day.

The ice is 15+ inches thick where we are fishing and vehicles are being permitted to drive on the lake. We have been fishing around 30 feet of water and continue to follow the fish as they move further into the lake. Hot colors have been anything in glow white/green/pink along with the classic LOW gold. Set lines have also been producing a good amount of fish with a plain hook. Fish seem to be holding tight to the bottom but make sure to have your electronics as this will allow you to see fish all throughout the water column.

Don’t wait any longer, there is a hot bite on the Walleye Capital of the World right now! To book your trip with Sweet’s Fishing, call Steve at 218-368-7323

Sweet’s Fishing has been on the ice for a couple weeks now and fishing has been great! The ice remains firm at 13 inches thick and making more every day. Fishing is best in water from 24 to 26 feet deep. Pink and white glow jigs are working great with quite a few Walleyes being caught that are in the slot. Deadsticks are picking up a few more fish than jigging.

Check out our photo album for some new pictures, including a 50 inch Sturgeon caught by Brian Bataglia! Call and book your reservation now, as the sleepers and day houses are filling up quick! Look forward to seeing you on the ice at the Walleye Capital of the World. Feel free to call me with any questions/comments!

Lake of the Woods Fishing Report 11/8/2011

Fishing on Lake of the Woods has been great this last month! We had a few really nice days with the temperatures in the 50’s. The water was like glass! The lake has finally cleared up from all the wind we have had in recent weeks. There are still plenty of fish to catch in the lake even though many of them are now in the river chasing the shiners. Down-rigging and jigging has worked the best. We are using Northland Tackle’s 3/8oz Eye-ball jigs. Gold, pink, and chartreuse have been the color of choice.

This last week we caught some really nice Walleye, a few in the higher 20’s and even one that hit 30 inches! Come enjoy a trip up North before Lake of the Woods Ice Fishing begins! See you on the water!
