Hey everyone, JP Sweet here with an update from Sweet’s Fishing on Lake of the Woods. If you haven’t noticed we have done a complete overhaul of Sweetsfishing.com and added a bunch of pictures that until now were exclusive to our Facebook page! We hope the new website outlay is easier to navigate and help you find your desired information! As soon as the regulations for the upcoming fish season is offically released we will be adding a rules/regs page to this website to help you, our valued guests plan your fishing adventure on Lake of the Woods! Our rates page has also been updated to reflect our new pricing structure for the 2021-2022 ice fishing season!

As of Monday our 2 new 5-person sleeper fish houses have been foamed and are now in the stages of having the interior installed! The 2 new houses will be around the same size as sleeper #11(The Carport House AKA The Not Blue One) and will be perfect to accommodate you and your crew as you chase trophy walleye this winter on Lake of the Woods.

The water temps over the weekend continue to dip with water temps on the south shore of Big Traverse Bay coming in at roughly 45 Degrees and water in the Rainy River sitting around 39 Degrees. We have had freezing temps during the overnight hours up here in Baudette and that will help us on our road to making ice! The forecast for the next 7 days doesn’t seem to reflect that however with weekend highs in the mid to upper 50s(just what you deer hunters want to hear!). However, the early calls for next weekend include highs in the mid 30s with lows at night reaching the low 20s!

As for the fishing on the Rainy River and Lake of the Woods we have heard reports of a steady bite on the south shore and a solid evening bite on the river! Fisherman are finding Walleyes will full bellies of shiners when they get cleaned which indicate the shiner run is in full effect as we kick off the ever important month of November here on the big lake! We will continue to monitor the forecast as we march on here in the month of November and will update everyone as we get a clearer picture of when we will hit the ice! It’s important to remember every winter is different in this aspect. Some years such as the winter of 2018 where we had houses on the ice on December 1st or the winter of 2016 where we weren’t able to begin our season until December 27th. Hey everyone! Long time no talk! Our open water fishing season is coming to an end and that means the ice is just around the corner! The shiner run this year on the south end of the lake has been phenomenal and that should mean with a little luck at freeze up a fantastic ice fishing season is in store for us in 2021-22! We will also be adding 2 new larger 5 man sleepers to our fleet for the upcoming ice fishing season and we are excited to show off the finished product! Hey everyone! We hope everyone is having a Happy New Year and had a safe and happy Holiday Season!

Up here on the big lake our houses are fishing in 26-28′ of water and finding the fish! Our houses are reporting several saugers being brought up the holes as well as some keeper sized Walleyes! We have also been seeing a few nice sized Perch,Pout and even the occasional Crappie! The hot jigs so far this season have been Pink,Green or Gold buckshot or jigging spoons tipped with a minnow head. As for the dead sticks the hot ticket so far has been a plain Red hook with a live minnow 6″ off the bottom!

As for our road we plan to be expanding it this week! Currently we are allowing 1/2 Ton pick ups pulling smaller wheel houses, ATV/Side by Sides pulling wheel houses and snowmobiles out of our access! We are finding anywhere from 15-20 inches of ice in the areas we travel and fish. Please stay close to the traveled areas as the ice isn’t consistent across the lake! Hopefully mother nature will cooperate soon and give us some good ice making temps! We have openings in the day houses on the weekends throughout the month as well as several mid-week sleeper openings throughout January as well as weekend openings in February! Sweet’s Fishing is officially on the lake for the 2020-2021 Ice Fishing Season!

Our access is now open for the season! We have found ice ranging from 8-13″ in the places near the areas that are staked! We will be allowing ATVs, side by sides and snowmobiles with portables out of our access at this time! If If you choose to use our access please park in the north parking lot to load and unload your rigs! Cost of the access is $10 per day. Please, be wary of a crack just after crossing the point and do not venture far from the marked areas and do not go past the x stakes at the end of the trail!

We have our fleet sleepers and day houses on the lake and the first weekend of fishing was dynamite with houses averaging 60+ fish a day! Pink,green and white have been the ticket colors early on! We have day house openings and sleeper openings throughout the week before Christmas so give us a call at 218-368-7323 and come on up! All of our houses will be sanitized in between each group to do our part to help everyone remain safe during the COVID pandemic!

Hey everyone! We are anxiously awaiting the ice fishing season! We will be waiting until Monday, December 14th to begin our season. The ice still needs some time to firm up a bit before we drag the sleepers out but we are looking forward to a good bite when we do arrive on the lake next week! Our access will remain closed at this time and we will update this early next week as well! We have both day house and sleeper openings available immediately beginning next Tuesday. In other news we are excited to announce our new on shore shower house and heated fish cleaning house! This amenity will be available for our customers within the next couple weeks and we’re very excited for this addition!

We are officially on the lake and underway with the 2019-2020 ice fishing season at Sweet’s Fishing on Lake of the Woods! We plan to have the sleepers out this weekend as well! Our houses are currently set up in 24′ of water and the bite is phenomenal! We have immediate day house openings and we hope to see you on Lake of the Woods soon! Our access remains closed as of today but we will evaluate before the weekend and make a decision on ATV’s,Side by Sides and Snowmobiles with portables.
