Santa heard our Christmas wishes and ice fishing on Lake of the Woods is off to a roaring start! Our houses are currently located in 29-30′ of water and limits are coming in daily. The bite is currently a mixed bag with several Walleye and Sauger being reported daily. Our houses are reporting anywhere from 40-50 fish per day currently and are filling limits daily.
The preferred techniques right now are glow in the dark green or red jigging spoons tipped with a fat head head or a jigging rap. Jigging is highly effective 2-4″ from the bottom and the fish show a high interest in following the bait when worked. Dead sticking is finding high rates of success on smaller glow or gold jigs as well as plain hooks tipped with a live fat head. Fish finders are highly recommended.
Off of our access we are currently finding ice thickness ranging from 13-15″ in the areas where our houses are located. Our access is currently opened to ATVs,Side by Sides and Snowmobiles. We hope to be letting half tons out after the Christmas holiday barring any significant set backs with ice conditions and we get a few colder nights. For those venturing out we continue to encourage you to stick to the marked areas and always check on up to date conditions before venturing out.
We have openings in sleepers and day houses this coming weekend as well as limited availability New Years weekend. Dates for the remainder of the ice fishing season are filling fast so don’t wait, book your ice fishing adventure with Sweet’s Fishing today!
From everyone here at Sweet’s Fishing we would like to fish you a very Merry Christmas and we cant wait to see you on Lake of the Woods very soon.
12-5-18 Fishing Report: Early ice fishing on Lake of the Woods is off to a hot start with limits coming in daily. The Walleye bite is primarily in the 11-16′ of water range with larger keeper and slot fish being reported in the early mornings and evenings. Meanwhile, the Sauger bite is primarily being reported in the 24-26′ of water range with steady numbers being reported in the mid-afternoons.
The hot color right now is glow in the dark pink on a buckshot, stop sign or other type of jigging spoon tipped with either a fat head or shiner head. Vexlars or other depth finders are highly recommended at this time as the fish need to be worked before they will bite.

Well folks,Lake of the Woods has frozen over!(well,as far as we can see from shore anyways). We currently dont have an ice reading from the lake as it’s too soon for safe foot travel on it as of this post.
Bostic Bay is froze over as well and we have reports of 4″-7″ of ice on it with spots of 2″ or less toward the Morris Point Gap and the northern fishing is off to a strong start.
We still do not have an ETA as to when ice fishing on Lake of the Woods will begin but barring any significant weather swing it wont be too long now.
As always please use caution when venturing out on early ice. Contact local bait shops or outfitters for the most up to date in ice conditions before venturing out and stay in the marked areas.
We will be updating our ice conditions and fishing reports as soon as new information becomes available. We have several prime early ice and weekend dates available and we look forward to seeing you on Lake of the Woods very soon! Until then stay safe and have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving holiday.
